The Catholic Educational Association of the Philippines (CEAP) hosted the inaugural gathering of the newly formed Episcopal Commission on Catholic Education (ECCE) under the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines (CBCP). The Listening Session with School Heads took place on October 10, 2024, at the CEAP National Office in Quezon City.
Invitations were extended by CBCP-ECCE Chairperson, Most Rev. Charlie Inzon, O.M.I., D.D., CBCP-ECCE Executive Secretary, Fr. Raymond Joseph L. Arre, CEAP President, Fr. Albert N. Delvo, Ph.D., and CEAP Executive Director, Mr. Jose Allan I. Arellano, to Catholic education stakeholders. The event was graced by the presence of Most Rev. Rex Andrew C. Alarcon, D.D., Archbishop of Caceres, also a member of the commission.
CBCP-ECCE recognized the valuable participation of the heads and representatives from academic institutions such as Adamson University, Ateneo de Manila University, De La Salle University, Holy Angel University, Miriam College, St. Joseph’s College of Quezon City, St. Paul University Manila, and Siena College of Taytay. Additionally, the key figures from organizations such as the Association of Catholic Universities of the Philippines (ACUP), the Catholic Educational Association of the Philippines (CEAP), the Philippine Catholic Schools Standards (PCSS), and the Superintendents Conference (SUPCON) were also in attendance.
The session aimed to gather insights from stakeholders of Catholic educational institutions as the newly established commission has begun reviewing and crafting its statutes to ensure the upholding of the identity of Catholic institutions across the country.
This event marks the start of a collaborative mission shared by CEAP, ECCE, and CBCP. With the active involvement of school heads and stakeholders, the formation of the statutes for the new commission is now underway. As St. Anthony Mary Claret wisely said, "Something big starts from something small." These early steps pave the way for a greater vision to unfold.
